29 August, 18 & 25 September 2020 – Annie Leonard, an American advocate for all things sustainability once said, “There is no such thing as ‘away’. When you throw something away, it must go somewhere”. This sheds light on the mountainous waste piling up in landfills or in incinerators awaiting to be burned to ash – issues many tend to forget even on their journey to a more sustainable lifestyle. To raise CMS employees’ awareness on these environmental matters, CMS Cement Industries Sdn Bhd’s Sibu Bulk Terminal and Mambong team respectively held recycling campaigns to spur greater motivation among our employees to become zero-waste individuals by either reusing items and reducing their waste, or by recycling recyclable materials. After hours spent separating the recyclables, properly disinfecting them, and thoughtfully reorganising them during their recycling drive, our employee team from Sibu collected a total of 468.8 kg worth of recyclables sold for RM100.50 while the impressive 3,122.50 kg recyclables contributed by our Mambong team garnered proceeds of RM1,115.70, all of which will be donated to local charities.
Cahya Mata Sarawak (CMS) recognises its responsibility to the local community and provides financial aid and assistance, which is supplemented by our employees’ commitment to ‘Doing Good, where employees volunteer as participants, and extend their time and talent to support community efforts. Through our community outreach efforts, we aim to enhance the quality of life in the communities where we work and live.
