Plogging around Kampung Nangka Sibu

20 September 2020 – If you too took a second glance at the word ‘plogging’ – you are not alone. The name of this quirky exercise through which trash is picked up while brisk walking or jogging is coined from two words: jogging, and ‘plocka upp’ which is Swedish for ‘pick up’. This innovative union of ecology and sport has been the talk of the town in environmentalist Scandinavian countries as it feeds two birds with one seed; not only will one burn 288 calories compared to the 235 calories burned from regular jogging, surrounding litter gets cleaned up too! Knowing this, 21 volunteers from CMS Cement Industries Sdn Bhd jumped in on this health-environmental bandwagon and joined JKKK Kampung Nangka, Pusat Khidmat Dun Nangka and the Sibu Municipal Council in a plogging and gotong-royong session at Kampung Nangka Sibu. Through this community initiative, we hope to raise the village folk’s awareness towards the importance of keeping the environment clean and maintaining a healthy lifestyle especially in the midst of this pandemic.
