17 July 2016 – More than 2,000 runners including 65 CMS employees took part in last Sunday’s Silent Run in Kuching. The charity run which was organised to not only create public awareness for the deaf but also to raise funds for the Sarawak Deaf Sports Association. CMS employees made up the largest number of group participants at the event.
Although it was called The Silent Run, it was certainly not a silent event, with music blaring throughout the event. To add to the fun-filled morning was the presence of the SOPMA Mascot which attracted many to pose and take photos with it.
The deaf and mute community in Kuching are actively involved in sports, with a number of them participating in the Sukan Orang Pekak Malaysia (SOPMA), a biennial National level multi-sports competition for the deaf. The next SOPMA XIX will be held in Sarawak between 30 September and 7 October 2016.
