Samalaju Industries Sdn Bhd (783430-V)

This company has taken a 25% equity stake in OM Materials (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd and in OM Materials (Samalaju) Sdn Bhd – both joint ventures with the Australian Stock Exchange (ASX)-listed OM Holdings Ltd – to build and operate a ferrosilicon and manganese ferroalloys smelter in the Samalaju Industrial Park (SIP) north of Bintulu. This is one of the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy’s (SCORE) growth nodes, which focuses on attracting energy intensive industries to take advantage of Sarawak’s competitive long-term energy prices.

The first phase of the smelter has been commissioned in phases since September 2014 to produce 308,000 MT of ferrosilicon alloys annually. The second phase is expected to produce 300,000 MT of manganese alloys annually. Production is expected to commence by 1H 2016.

The company has also taken a 60% equity stake in Malaysian Phosphate Additives (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd (MPAS), a joint venture with Malaysian Phosphate Venture Sdn Bhd (27.17%), and Ariff Enigma Sdn Bhd (12.83%). MPAS was set up to construct and operate an integrated phosphate complex in Samalaju Industrial Park, Sarawak. Construction work is currently on-going and the first phase, comprising 3 plants is targeted for completion by end of 2020. The plants will produce Yellow Phosphorous, Technical Grade Phosphoric Acid and Food Grade Phosphoric Acid (to be used as feedstock for animal feed, fertiliser and other products), with an annual production capacity of 48,000 Metric Tons (MT), 75,000 MT and 60,000 MT respectively.
